Would a 2009 Vulcan 500 have catalytic converters?

Thanks

No cat con. It does have a basic air injection system to help combustion of the unburned fuel in the exhaust. Think "smog pump" on your old Chevy but this is a reed valve system that performs the same function. That fuel burning off is what some refer to backfiring on deceleration when it's really after burning. (I seldom notice any on my bike but I keep it in proper running condition.) On the EX-500 forums you'll see lots of posts about how to eliminate the system. I don't see removing it adding performance in any way other than by dropping the overall bike weight by a few ounces. I'm leaving mine stock.....
