Carb intake boots replacement

Postby ametekfan » Wed Apr 18, 2012 8:52 am

Any tips or tricks on how to make it easy to replace the carb boots the ones from airbox to carbs? Seems mine is leaking alot of air. Front ones to the engine seems to be leaking too. Gonna replace all 4.

I have the same problem. The boot on the airbox left side doesn't fit well to the carb. The bike runs great and I have both carbs synched perfectly so I don't want to pull them unless absolutely necessary. It looks like they have to come off to get the airbox out though. Someone pulled the carbs and drilled the mixture plugs before I got the bike. It looks like they may have pushed the boot out of position in the airbox and now I can't get it to fit properly to the carb no matter what I try. Money is beyond tight but I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and order some new airbox boots. All boots are soft and crack free but I can't have the bike down waiting for parts if I need them when I take it apart. The bike gives me more than twice the MPG of the car so I use it for my main transportation now.

I've got to replace the rear tire, chain and sprockets, oil change and plugs this weekend. If I get to the airbox it wouldn't be for more than a month so if you pull yours out shoot some pictures please! I'd love to see some really good interior shots of the airbox and how the boots are retained inside.

I'm sure you already know about RonAyers.com but I'll include links to the parts microfiche anyway.

AIRBOX BOOTS:http://www.ronayers.com/Fiche/TypeID/26/Type/Air_Cleaner/MakeID/3/Make/Kawasaki/YearID/45/Year/2004/ModelID/3437/Model/Vulcan_500_LTD/GroupID/96268/Group/Air_Cleaner

CARB TO HEAD BOOTS: http://www.ronayers.com/Fiche/TypeID/26/Type/Air_Cleaner/MakeID/3/Make/Kawasaki/YearID/45/Year/2004/ModelID/3437/Model/Vulcan_500_LTD/GroupID/96265/Group/Cylinder_Head

Looks like just under $90.00 (+shipping) to do all the boots and clamps.

I've purchased from Ron Ayers before and can't find better prices on factory Kawasaki parts anywhere. If someone knows of a place with lower prices PLEASE post it up. I need to save every penny I can!
