Right side exhaust header

I've got a '99 LTD. The inner wall on the right header has broken loose so I'm getting a rattling noise from it. A new stock one is $150 or so, and would leave me with one factory new chromed pipe right next to one with rust on it. Does anybody have (or know where to get) a used pipe that's in decent condition? I can't afford to replace both at the new price. eBay has a left side pipe, but that does me no good.

I found a couple places by googling "used motorcycle parts" but I didn't find anyone that had what I would consider reasonable prices. I've been eying fleabay for an exhaust for my '94 non LTD since December. Unfortunately everything i've seen pop up for either bike has either been junk or sold almost immediately.

Yeah, that's basically what I've run into. I even put in a part search request with one of the major online motorcycle parts locators. Never heard a thing back from them, other than the initial email telling me they'd find it and get back to me within 48 hours.

It never occurred to me that it would be so hard to locate an exhaust system for a bike that was still in production through last year. Oh well. I may end up selling it in a few months when I've got the Silverwing running anyway. Great bike, though. I've had a great time with it and it's been very affordable to operate except for this.

As mentioned, I've checked eBay pretty consistently for a few months now. Nothing has come up yet, unless it came and went quickly and I missed it. If you happen to see one come up, please post a link. I'd love to get one. Thanks.

hey fastpackr, there is a right exhaust header on ebaymotors right now. they are selling it for $70. just type "vulcan 500 exhaust" in the search for ebaymotors, and it is about half down the page.

That's a muffler. I need the header, aka exhaust manifold that connects directly to the cylinder head. Thanks for thinking of me, though.

dude, i know the difference between a muffler and a header. there was a right side header on there as well. if someone else has bought it by now, then you should have pounced quicker.

From your response, I get the feeling I hit a nerve. Certainly wasn't my intent. I went back and searched completed items and found the header. Unfortunately, it was sold a couple of hours after you posted, before I stopped by the forums. When I initially searched, there was a right side muffler in the middle of the listings for the price you stated. Hopefully you can see why it looked like there was a mistake.
Sorry for any confusion, and thanks again for checking.

no,no,no dude, i wasnt griping. alls cool. i didnt know it would sell that fast though. i guess it must be a hot item. for my bike, when i go to mod my exhaust, i am going to cut the headers right before the crossover, so i dont have the leak everyone seems to be having. sorry for the confusion. i bet if you keep watching, another one will pop up though. good luck.

My break seems to be all the way up by the sharp bend just a few inches away from the head. There's really nothing to be done short of replacing that entire section.

it might not look perfect, but you could always take it to an exhaust shop and have them weld it for you. you could take a dremel tool and clean the weld up afterward. if it was a small place, you might not even notice it much afterward. just a thought.

I'm not following - how would they weld it? By coming in through the end of the tube by the head? Interesting thought. I won't know precisely where mine is broken until removing the exhaust.

they can just weld it on the outside. like i said, it might not look perfect, but it will save you a bunch of money.
