Replacement Tires for the 500

Postby burkbuilds » Sat Feb 06, 2010 9:46 pm

I've been very pleased with the original tires on my 500. Right now I've got about 11,000 miles on both and plenty of tread wear left to go a couple thousand more. I check my tread depth about once a month and right now I've still got 2.5mm on the front and 3.0mm on the rear tire. The book recommendation is for a Minimum tread depth of 1mm on the front and 2mm on the rear tire. If my current rate of wear stays constant I should get at least 6,000 more miles out of each tire. I've never gotten more than 11,000 miles out of tires on previous bikes and on my last bike the rear tire was only good for about 8,000 before it was done. All that to say, I'm definitely going back to the same Bridgestone Exedra tires that came on this bike when I go to replace these sometime this Summer. I'll also replace the tubes at the same time just to be on the safe side. (Front Tire is G701 100/90-19 57S and the Rear Tire is G702 140/90-15 70S).

I've been searching the Web a little for these tires and so far the best prices I've found for them so far have been at www.motorcycletire.com $68.99 for the front and $95.99 for the rear tire plus $29.99 Shipping to my house.

Anyone ever bought tires from these guys before? Does anyone have a better source (lower price) for replacement tires? I was also wondering if it would be better to order tires now when it's not the "season" for riding and dealers might be pricing them to sell rather than wait until May or June and maybe find prices higher and stock choices limited.

I've only bought from tiresunlimited.com checked and they're more expensive, about $105 and $75 for the OE Bridgestones. Those seem like very reasonable prices though.

Motorcycle Superstore has the rear for $94.99 and free shipping over $75. I've ordered from them a few times and been very satisfied. Unfortunately, they don't seem to have the front tire available. Perhaps if you gave them a call they could work something out?

Edit - they DO have the front tire on the website, but it's just listed as G701 O.E. rather than Exedra G701. Price is $67.99. You'd be out $162.98 with free shipping (not counting tubes).
