Aluminum wheel swap. EN500A to EN500C

Postby Triangles » Sun Jan 31, 2010 10:41 pm

This is a how-to in progress for swapping the aluminum wheels from an EN500A (early vulcan 500 '90-'96) to the current EN500C (LTD '96+).

UPDATE 2-20-10:

Triangles, it's 5A.M. here in Slovenia and you already made my day. Thanks 8-)

I think I have all the parts, except for the speedometer thing, but I already know where to click it from. So the project can begin soon. Will report as it progresses.

Great post! I like the looks of the spokes better, but they are a pain to keep clean compared to the older style, given the option at purchase time, I'd probably take the older wheels, but I doubt if I'll ever go to the trouble and expense of changing them out. If I do decide to change them, this post will be extremely helpful, thanks!

Progress report: I spend a lot of time in my garage, learning how to polish bits & pieces, before trying to assemble them.

Mr. Miyagi would approve :)

Close. It takes endless hours of zen meditation, focusing your mind on the effects of various abrasives, buffing wheels and polishing compounds. Until the divine moment of enlightment (satori), when you find yourself glaring at the pitiful piece of old metal and yelling: "Shine, you bas**rd!" (katsu)

Young master Triangles, you turn out to be a surprisingly efficient and useful person. Thank you ;)

Nothing new to report from Casa Jablonsky. Got all the hardware, including the speedometer thing, but no time to continue.

I'll be back 8-)

Progress report II: aluminum wheels polished. If you ignore my fingerprints all over them, you will most probably agree that sensei Fikret did a great job.

Very nice! Are you putting anything on them to prevent oxidization?

good looking wheels man. i bought a pair for mine off of ebay. i will be putting them on next winter. i would love to polish them, but i dont think i have the patience to do it. but looking at yours almost makes me want to try though. i also thought about getting them powder coated black, but i dont know yet.

Thanks Kawboy. Just have to tell I did not polish the wheels myself, sensei Fikret did it for me. He has the machinery and years of experience. Yes, I polished the rear brake drum cover and lever, but it would take me centuries to polish the wheels well with what I've got. I only wish I had all that time...

OK, here come 2 fresh pics of Magnus, taken last Saturday :)
