Vulcan 500 Header Discoloured

Postby Jim Hermann » Tue Apr 16, 2013 8:48 pm

What has caused my left header to discolor on my Vulcan 500? The right header stays chrome looking. The engine runs really good and sounds good.

The pipes are double walled to keep the extreme exhaust heat off the chrome outer pipe. Welds of the inner pipe have been known to fail resulting in rattling and blue pipe discoloration. You may have a small leak from the inner pipe that's overheating the chrome. From what I can see your pipe isn't that bad. It may just be that your carb needs a tune up/synchronization or maybe you got something on the pipe that burned up.
