Rectifier/regulator location

Postby GeorgiaRider » Tue Sep 09, 2014 5:27 am

I read on one of the Vulcan forums (www.vulcanforums.com) that some people with the Vulcan 2000 have had problems with the rectifier, etc getting corroded because of the location near the bottom of the chassis. Some have relocated the unit for more protection from the elements. Is this something to check on our bikes? I'm clueless with electrical stuff, so any guidance will be appreciated.

I circled it in red. It's the finned thingy below the left hand side "pod cover."

I had the connector get corroded and burn up on my '94. Not a fun repair! I don't think the failures have much to do with it being mounted low. It's more age and the high voltage/current going thru the contacts. The rectifier is mounted up high on my '94 and I still had issues. This reminds me I will have to check my '06 and put some dielectric grease on the contacts.
