Battery maintenance - the lazy way

If you are lazy like me and hate to remove the battery every winter, you might like the idea to install a cigarette lighter socket and charge your battery through it. I have the socket installed on the frame, just below the gas tank. It does not disturb and you can hardly notice it. It is also convenient to charge cell phones GPS and similar.



I use Optimate III battery optimiser for some years now and it works well.

As an alternative, you can purchase a traditional battery maintainer, then get a cable to convert the SAE connector into a cigarette lighter socket. Either works very well. I can snap some photos of mine if that would be helpful.

Hawkeye Triangles Yes, that's the front wheel you see.

I found the socket HERE but I guess this info will not be very helpful to you - it's a bit far from Toledo, Ohio. Better to find it in the US or, if you are really desperate, I can buy it and send it over to you.

That's the same place I mounted mine, for the gps and/or cell phone. Picked up my socket from the local walmart. Did you have to do anything special to the wiring to allow charging the battery through it?
Did you also relocate your ignition switch? Mine is right below that location.

No special modifications, just installed the set as I bought it.

The ignition switch is still there. I was having the bracket chromed when the previous photo was taken.
