Honda Pacific Coast 800

I just brought home a '89 Pacific Coast 800 with 36k miles on the clock. I'm not quite sure what I'm going to use her for or what I am going to do as far as repair/restoration on a 23 year old bike. It's a strange bike somewhere between a scooter, adventure tourer, and Gold Wing. The trunk on this bike is huge! I could probably fit a small body in it!

I've got a shot front fork that was supposedly rebuilt recently so that means I'll need a fork tube :( Plus a small valve cover oil leak. Plenty of rust to get after too. I'm starting to feel like the crazy cat lady who collects stray cats except I'm collecting stray motorcycles :)

NO!!! NOT ANOTHER PROJECT!!! :lol: I still haven't finished fuel injecting the Vulcan. I guess now I won't have the excuse that I can't work on the EFI project because I'm riding he bike instead of tearing it down. Now I've got another one to ride.

'89-'98 but they had a 4 year break where there wasn't a new model(selling off excess inventory is the going rumor as to why). If you believe wikipedia they only sold about 13,000 of them over 9 years in the states. I found some people who tour on these things and there are several out there with over 200k miles! It's a very practical bike. It kind of reminds me of an accord with 2 wheels instead of 4. She's got a gutless detuned 800cc 45deg vtwin. I thought the Vulcan 500 was quiet but this thing makes maybe half the noise. It's super smooth and low revving (4500RPM @ 70mph). I can even swap the final drive with that of a VT1100 to change the final drive from 3.4 stock to 3.09. The rear tire is a 140/80-15 if the PO hadn't put new rubber on I probably would have tried going darkside. It will never replace my Vulcan 500 though.

I have finally made some progress on this much delayed project. I rebuilt the forks with pretty much all new parts. New tubes, springs, bushings, seals, etc. I added some fork gaiters to protect the forks. They are mostly hidden by the body work so they won't be very noticeable when she's all back together again.

Believe it or not this is an improvement. Prior to today the front forks were in pieces on my floor for about the past year. Thankfully I still had all the bits that get reused and was able to figure out how to put it back together again. I intend to have her roadworthy by end of April. :lol:

My (incomplete) to-do list, roughly in order of importance.
-New brake/clutch hoses
-New plugs & wires
-New brake pads
-Fix oil leaks in valve covers.
-Replace all coolant hoses
-Replace all fuel hoses and fuel filter
-Rebuild fuel petcock
-Replace carb float needles
-Install Stebel Nautilus air horn
-Install VT1100 final drive
-Install luggage rack and trunk
--wire brake light for trunk
-Clean up and paint wheels
-New tires
-Repair plastic body panels.
-Figure out how to carry more than 4.2 gallons of gas.
-HID conversion?

Made some progress today. The coolant hose to the rear cylinder is no longer made. I figured out that I can make one out of the hose that goes to the front cylinder.
