Wants to die until warmed up

Postby Timbo » Fri Oct 28, 2016 11:25 am

I have a 2006 vulcan 500 and when I first start the bike it has to warm up for a few minutes or when I let the clutch out it dies. I live in Nebraska but this morning it was upper 50's (temperature) or low 60's. Is this common? I have had the bike for 3 years and it has just under 16000 miles. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Good morning.

I'd check the 'Side Stand Switch'. It can be bypassed by connecting the leads together.

Thanks for your advice bikerbill. The problem ended up being the switch located down on the kick stand. There was very little movement on the switch when I would put the kick stand in the up position. With a good cleaning of carburetor cleaner the switch is now operating normally. Thanks again for the advice.

You may want to put some lube on that switch. That carb cleaner surely removed any lube that was there. Since that area is so prone to crap from the road, maybe a "dry" lube of some sort?

Had the same issue, even worse than Timbo's, and what Triangles suggested worked like a charm. It ran without fault after some lubing up. And I didn't even put too much lube in there. Cheers, brother.
