Hidalgo has a stablemate!!

I picked up a '98 Vulcan 500C from a member on another forum that had been trying to get it going right but finally 'threw in the towel'.

More to follow.

I also just for a new bike. So I have a ? .. I have a 2007 en500. Just changed the oil use n I&n filter. With. Castr 10w/40. After i changed the oil. 3.4 quarts. I only rode for about 15 mil and looked at the glass to look at oil and it was at 1/4 full. Were did the oil go? No oil leaks nothing in air......

It may have gone into the oil filter. After doing an oil change check the oil level after 'priming' the oil system. I.e.: run the engine for a minute or two to let the oil circulate. Turn the engine off and let it sit for a few minutes. Then check the oil level with the bike vertical.

Hope this helps.

New rider, also you have to hold the bike straight up (ie not on the kick stand) to use the site glass properly. Pretty much if you see oil in the site glass and some air on top you are good to go.

Bill,
Great! I can't wait to see more! I really gotta find time to get that honda I picked up 4 years ago on the road again!

I have started a 'Resurrection Blog' to document what we're doing.

We cleaned the fuel tank today. Then sync'd and adjusted the carbs.

We took it out on the street today. Here's Daniel starting it for the first time:

I tried to get him to video some of the ride but he didn't push the right buttons on the camera.

Daniel is now schooled on proper oil change techniques for a Vulcan 500. Including fishing out the drain plug and washer from the oil bucket.

Took SoH out for a short spin today. About 6 miles out I felt the engine surge a bit so I switched the fuel to RES and headed back. The surging continued, got worse, and finally sputtered to a stop a couple of miles later. I checked the fuel cap for POOGS but no 'woosh'. After a 5 minute sit it started up, on full choke, so I continued back home. It sputtered to a stop another mile later. 5 minute sit, another mile. I figured that some junk from the bottom of the tank was being fed to the carbs and it wouldn't get any better so I called my wife to pick me up.

I came back with some fuel, drained the carbs, added the fuel and switched back to ON. It finally started running good so I rode homeward. Wouldn't you know it, another mile down the road and the sputtering began again. I was able to eventually limp back home.

Anyways, I figured the fuel filter was clogging so I replaced it and took it out for another spin tonight. It's running much better. Tomorrow I will try again to see if the new fuel filter is the fix.

Son of Hidalgo is now repaired from its misadventure in Louisiana and ready to ride.

Due to the nature of this incident we have decided that the bike needs its permanent name. That name is Sioux.

Here's to our next adventure.
