speed and rpm
i wonder, does anyone know what the rpm is at different speeds on a newer vulcan 500 with stock gearing? i was just curious. i dont really want to buy a tach, so i thought someone might have one installed and could tell me. thanks guys.

I have a spreadsheet that does all sorts of neat RPM vs Gear/speed calculations with pretty graphs. I started with the spreadsheet from the Yahoo groups. I'll post it when I get a chance. BTW the speedometers on these bikes read about 5 mph slow at freeway speeds.

hey triangles, for some reason my computer wont pull that thing up. is there any way you could just tell me what the rpm is in 6th gear at 70mph. thanks.

Looks like 5600 rpm at 70 mph (stock).

That sounds about right, with my new 17/40 sprockets I'm turning around 4800 on my tach at 70mph. I can't speak for the accuracy of the speedometer on my bike, but as for the odometer, it is only off by 1/10th of a mile for every five miles traveled judging by the highway distance markers, and I've checked that repeatedly in various places.
