Re: 2009 Vulcan with Mods
OK. Thanks for the advice. I ordered the tach and I'll let you guys know how it works.

Burkbuilds,
Does the clock you have screw into the bolt where you have it? What is the gizmo to the right of the tach?
Thanks.

Re: 2009 Vulcan with Mods
Thanks, I bought that fender on e-bay. I like chrome and it wasn't very expensive, so I thought I'd try it. Had to drill two mounting holes to make it not hit my tire, but I've got a drill press and that really was not a problem to do.

Re: 2009 Vulcan with Mods
I've got to find a new mechanic. Had the tach installed and rode down the road. The tach wasn't working. Returned and they got the tach working. Rode for a while and noticed the speedometer wasn't working. It goes back tomorrow to fix. Not sure why it is so hard for them. I did learn that I like shifting at 7500-8000 rpm (which is ~max HP) in second and third gear. This is where the engine seems to sound best and I love the parallel engine sound at this point. Max torque is around 5250, so they say keep it revving over 5K for max performance as you're shifting.
Does anyone else have anything else to add with tach/performance on their bike?
Thanks.

Re: 2009 Vulcan with Mods
I agree that your max power is in that band, but it's not going to be your most fuel efficient rpms. When I switched out my sprockets to a 17/40 ratio I was able to drop from about 5200 to about 4900 rpms at 70mph and my highway fuel mileage went up about 10 mpgs to around 60-61 mpg. That may not be important to you, but it was to me on a tight budget. Sorry you are having problems getting the shop to get it right. Hopefully they will fix it tomorrow with no more problems.

Re: 2009 Vulcan with Mods
Thanks for the sprocket info. I'll explore that when I get closer to needing new ones. Right now 18K on them and OK. I typically get 55-60 now on my 500.

OK. Got the tach and speedometer working. They forgot to tighten the cable. Love the tach. I'm running 5,000 rpm at 65 mph in 6th gear. I'll post pics of the new windshield and tach soon. As mentioned earlier, it loves to shift in all gears at 7500-8000 rpm (or a little higher) as you wind it out when you're in the mood.

OK. Here are pics of my new tach (same one Burkbuilds got) and Memphis Shades Alley Cat shield. Also showing my extended footpegs, saddlebags, and iso-grips. I think I have it just like I want it now. Tach works great.

hey GEORGIA RIDER, do you like your windshield? i have the same one except mine is black on the bottom. i like mine pretty good. mine and your bike look identical, except yours is probably cleaner right now .
Re: 2009 Vulcan with Mods
GeorgiaRider, it is really a pleasure to see a bike so clean and so well taken care of. Beautiful!

Re: 2009 Vulcan with Mods
Thanks for the compliments. I had a guy at the shop tell me mine was pretty clean for a bike with 18K miles on it. I guess since this is my first bike I'm taking extra special care of it. Love the tach. When I forget which gear I'm in I can just glance down at my tach and know... Like the windshield. I still get some wind buffeting, but I think it is a good size for the bike. It had a black rubber molding on the bottom of it which I removed to give it a cleaner look. I can also lower it quickly with an Allen wrench.

Re: 2009 Vulcan with Mods
Your bike looks great, nice footpegs too! My Vulcan has about 3,000 less miles on it than your bike does and mine doesn't look nearly that nice.

Re: 2009 Vulcan with Mods
It's looking great GeorgiaRider, I really like your new windshield. Great pictures! I was thinking yesterday about how well my bike fits me now with the ISO Wings. It is fun to modify isn't it?
I swear... I only ride to save gas. (If you believe that I have a deal on a bridge for you.)
