This thing just jumped into my truck like a stray dog:
Bought as low mileage non-runner. Was running within 5 minutes. Now just need to go through the usual items that suffer from neglect:
Never ridden one, it will be interesting to see how this compares to what I'm now riding, a VS800 Boulevard...
Question: What's the other Vulcan 500 called (the one with alloy wheels and no gauges in the tank)?
New to me from Raleigh, NC

The one without the speedo on the tank is called the "Vulcan 500" What you have there is a "Vulcan 500 LTD" The model numbers are EN500A and EN500C respectively.

Ah, that's what threw me. I have owned 4 KZ's in the past, and it was the LTD's that had the alloy wheels, etc. I was having trouble finding the model numbers, thanks for the info.
I haven't even ridden this yet, am looking forward to it, and also looking forward to being a participant here.

Re: New to me from Raleigh, NC
FYI a little Kawasaki history. Back in the 80's the 454LTD was birthed from the ninja 900 engine (with the two outside pistons lopped off), From the 454LTD came the Ninja 500 and Vulcan 500. Essentially the same engine as the 454LTD just bored out to 500cc. In '96 the second generation Vulcan 500 was born. Known as the Vulcan 500 LTD. Both versions of the Vulcan 500 were sold as model year '96. To my knowledge other than paint there is no difference between the model years of the same version. '09 was the last year for the vulcan 500 LTD.

Thanks for that info. I have had quite a few bikes over the years, many of them Kaws because they just seemed to "fit" better, I can't even explain the feel. Here they are:
KZ1100 w/sidecar
750 Twin (my favorite bike ever)
750/4
My first KZ (900 back in '76):

Just got this bad boy shined up! Runs great, too. I think this may be a keeper!
