Re: Aluminum wheel swap. EN500A to EN500C
Very nice! Are you putting anything on them to prevent oxidization?

Re: 94 EN500A
Did you also use some rust converter or did you just clean the surface rust? Wire wheel on a drill down to bare metal. Used sand paper where the wire wheel wouldn't fit. I question whether or not that rust converter stuff really works. Also I used "self etching" primer. I don't think that...

Re: 94 EN500A
exactly what I was thinking. It had many areas of surface rust, mostly around the welds. I plan to do a fair amount of wet weather riding, so I figured that would only accelerate the surface rust into frame rot. I did not originally intend to completely strip it down except the motor, but you know p...

Re: 94 EN500A
Thanks I plan on riding rain or shine, so I figured it's best to take care of the rust before it's a problem. I hadn't planned on stripping it down to the frame except engine and handlebars forward. but I think it will be worth it. I sprayed on some truck bed liner on the front / bottom of the frame...

Aluminum wheel swap. EN500A to EN500C
How-to install the aluminum wheels from an EN500A (early vulcan 500 '90-'96) on the current EN500C (Vulcan 500 LTD '96+). As is all information on this site, this how-to is for informational purposes only. Follow this procedure at your own risk. In other words, I'm not responsible if you do somethin...

Re: Forward Controls
Very nice, can't wait to hear how they work out. I see that company even has saddle bag supports for my 94. No way in hell I'd pay over 100 dollars plus shipping though

Re: Scootworks Belt Drive Conversion
The OEM belt is just under 1 5/8" wide so I'll assume its 40mm wide. I'd be willing to bet that the narrower belt from scootworks is probably the widest belt that will fit the newer vulcans

Re: Chain replacement with new sprocket question
check your chain for "stretch" I don't know what the spec for pitch of our chain is, but I think it might be in the manual. Let me know if you can't find it and I'll look it up. I found the following below. I don't know if I believe the 100K number. I'd believe 25K and maybe 40K if religio...

Re: Scootworks Belt Drive Conversion
After investigating further, It doesn't look like the EN500A's belt would have enough clearance to put it in an EN500C. I could be wrong and if I am some body correct me. I measured about 5 cm from the transmission case to the outside edge of the pulley on the EN500A. As you can see from the second ...

Re: Aluminum wheel swap. EN500A to EN500C
It takes endless hours of zen meditation, focusing your mind on the effects of various abrasives, buffing wheels and polishing compounds. Until the divine moment of enlightment (satori) , when you find yourself glaring at the pitiful piece of old metal and yelling: "Shine, you bas**rd!" (...

Re: Scootworks Belt Drive Conversion
Since peak torque and hp seem to be reached on the Vulcan around 5500 rpms and that's about what I'm turning at 75mph now, I think it should be okay. I was thinking the same thing. I usually go 70-75 and do a lot of freeway as well. I figure the Vulcan 500 has 6 gears it would be really nice if 6th...

Re: Scootworks Belt Drive Conversion
no problem. I've contemplated changing my sprockets from stock 16/42 to 17/40. this would change the final drive from stock 2.625 to 2.35 which is pretty close to the scootworks belt conversion of 2.22. I'm no mechanical genius, but it seems like going from 2.625 to 2.22 is a rather huge jump and ma...

Re: Scootworks Belt Drive Conversion
If you stay with the chain you may be interested in some sort of chain oiler system. a few that I'm aware of are: scott oiler, pro oiler, hawk oiler, and loobman. Loobman is pretty simple and cheap, the others are more expensive and quite a bit more sophisticated.
