Swingarm spools on the 500?

I've got the Harbor Freight swingarm lift and it works ok. The problem is the mufflers are so far back that the lift pads are barely on the and of the swingarm. The bike has slid off a few times while lubing the chain. Luckily the kickstand stayed down and it didn't fall over. Most sport bikes use s...

Re: Right side exhaust header

You have to be FAST when they show up on ebay! I bought my right side two years ago for $100.00 shipped. It was brand new. Never installed. I bought my left side almost three months ago for $63.99 shipped. They said it had 2500 miles on it and after having them send me pictures of the inside I jumpe...

Re: Exhaust rattle

I tried plugging the drain hole but unfortunately that didn't help my situation at all. Well I finally got tired of the clangin' and bangin' of the left header and replaced it today. Nice and quiet again and no more embarrassing looks while at a traffic light. Hopefully I'll get at least another two...

Re: Exhaust rattle

You know right after I clicked "buy it now" I started thinking I probably should have tried what you did to put off the inevitable for a while. I have noticed a drop in performance and gas mileage though (just like when the right side broke) so with the price I got the "new" head...

Re: Exhaust rattle

Haven't had any luck finding a brand new left side header for a reasonable price but did find a low mileage used one on ebay for $64.00 shipped. They posted a picture of the inside and there are no visible cracks. They say it has 2500 miles from a wrecked 2009. We'll see how honest they are when it ...

Re: Exhaust rattle

Deja Vu all over again...... Left header is definitely failing now. It doesn't rattle quite like the right side did. It's more like a knock. At first I thought it was engine internal but I can rev it while I listen at the header and it's right there. I whacked the header with a dead blow hammer toda...

Re: Exhaust rattle

Just clicked over 30K this morning. The left header is starting to get a little noisier. Not bad but I can hear that death rattle starting. I'd better start watching ebay again and see if I can snag a deal like I got on the right side. When the right side went it was just too much noise to put up wi...

Re: How many miles do you put on your 500?

I ride no matter how wet or how hot but I could never live or ride in snow. I guess a lot of other people can't either. That's why it seems the population of the greater Phoenix area more than triples in the winter from "snowbirds". I already know exactly how and what time of year I will d...

Re: How many miles do you put on your 500?

I'll probably click over 30K this weekend. Forecast high of 88 degrees today and 85 tomorrow. I love Arizona! Times like this make the summers from the depths of hell worthwhile to endure. I seldom go out for pleasure rides anymore but this weekend I may just take the back roads up to Sedona to brea...

Re: Corroded battery terminals. home made lithium battery p

Monday night it's supposed to get down to -16°F for S&G's I'll try to start it Tuesday morning. Good luck on that one with any chemistry battery! :D I've been lucky and it hasn't been below 41 degrees in a while so starts have been uneventful. I still need to put together that emergency back up...

Re: Corroded battery terminals. home made lithium battery p

My battery is in the stock location so pulling it out at night and putting it back in in the morning isn't going to happen. Some kind of warming system would be great but it seems like anything for warming on a motorcycle (gloves, grips etc) is obscenely priced. It might be worth it to do a bunch of...

Re: Corroded battery terminals. home made lithium battery p

Because temps will soon on occasion be dropping close to freezing I've been thinking about either getting a Battery Tender and leaving it on overnight or adding a connector "port" so I can plug in an additional single "warm" 4 cell Lithium Ion pack in parallel to offset voltage s...

Re: Corroded battery terminals. home made lithium battery p

Interesting to see your post now since I got my first taste of this last week. It was 36 degrees and she didn't want to start right away. From using these cells in R/C planes I already knew they didn't like cold weather. Before takeoff I always held the plane and ran to full throttle several times f...

Re: Exhaust rattle

If anyone has seen an issue on a Vulcan 500 it's Biker Bill. He has put more miles on a motorcycle than most put on a car. I remember his posts about 20-25K pipe failures. Mine was 25K. I won't fight it again when this one fails. I'll buy new again. I didn't even save the old one I was so pissed off...
