Re: fuel leaking into airbox
There could be a number of problems here. I'll start off with your fuel petcock for safety reasons since we don't want you or your bike to go up in flames. Fuel Petcock: The fuel petcock has a little rubber diaphragm that engine vacuum causes the diaphragm to open fuel flow down to the carbs. As not...

Re: Help with rubber airbox manifolds
It's been years since I had my carbs out. IIRC I pulled the air filter out so I could access the rubber from inside the air box and simply pushed the rubber "boots" onto the carbs. I probably used some silicone tire shine as lubricant. Once I had the airbox "boots" on I simply pu...

Re: Float height
I would ask if you have the EN500A or EN500C but it doesn't matter since I'm pretty sure the specs are the same for both. When you put the carb back together set the float height (4 in the figure below) at 17mm or very close to that as a starting point. float_height.PNG As for checking the fuel leve...

Re: New member
FYI EN500A is first gen and EN500C is 2nd. In '96 both versions were sold. I too love the cast wheels. They fit just fine on my EN500C too. You just have to get the speedo gear thingy from the EN500A too. I'll ramble a little bit about the bike. One of the reasons I bough the Vulcan 500 was ease of ...

Re: Best size sprockets for highway riding
I still have 17/38 (Ninja rear sprocket). It's on the edge of being too tall but I still enjoy it. Had I known then what I know now I would have went with with 17/40. Riding 2 up with a headwind I top out at WOT somewhere between 75 and 80 MPH. In this scenario I drop down to 5th which is still a fu...

Re: Best size sprockets for highway riding
Rather than go with an 42/18 setup I would go with 40/17. You probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference since the ratios are so close. I would worry about less material engaging the splines on the output shaft due to the thinner 18t sprocket being a problem. However it seems to have worked wi...

WOW. You were in my stomping grounds. Adrian isn't far from me. That seems like some pretty crazy lengths to go to just for an engine!

I don't care if you post your email but I wouldn't do it. Some spam bot will likely read it and you'll likely end up getting more spam. I sent you a PM you should be able to respond to. If not you can email me by using my username at vulcan500 . com. Hopefully you can figure that out and it foils an...

Awesome! Glad I could help. While I always appreciate a free meal, I'd be happier to accept a donation towards paying for this sites next hosting bill. PM me if you're interested in chipping in. FYI I'm just a fellow rider (not a web guy) who made this forum out of frustration at the lack of a forum...

Re: transmission noise
The one sure way to determine if your transmission is eating itself is to do an oil change and see if there are sparkles in your oil. If there are then you are SOL and it's only a matter of time before it eats itself. It's probably easier/cheaper to just get a used engine than to try and fix the tra...
