Re: Left cylinder stops firing after engine is warmed up.

well I replaced both spark plug boots reusing the OEM wire. As you can see the new NGK boot is about 4-5mm shorter than the OEM. https://s20.postimg.org/cwqaasj09/IMG_3799.jpg here's the guts of the boot showing the 5K resistor. I already tossed the failed corroded OEM one before thinking of taking ...

Re: Left cylinder stops firing after engine is warmed up.

Well I got impatient. Plus I needed some plug wires for my '89 Honda project so I ran out to Advance Auto Parts and got an Accel 5040R V8 universal plug wiring kit . It has a spiral wound core with 500 ohm resistance per foot. Seeing as how the plug cap had a 5k ohm resistor I was slightly concerned...

Re: Left cylinder stops firing after engine is warmed up.

So it appears I have a bad left plug boot. Apparently the dielectric grease I put in the plug boot years ago didn't make it up to the brass piece that clips on the spark plug. it corroded and no longer "clips" onto the plug wire. I'm not sure why it would work when cold then fail when warm...

Left cylinder stops firing after engine is warmed up.

So this problem started last fall after my bike had set for a while. At first if I rode it with the RPMs up I could get the left cylinder to come back to life. I took an extended ride for about an hour and slowly the left cylinder began to work again. This then degraded into the left cylinder interm...

Re: Crank only turns halfway

Sounds like you have magnet chunks deeper in the engine that are preventing it from turning over.

Re: Belt won't stay centered on rear

It's been a while since I had my EN500A (found a home with my brother in law) From what I remember on my EN500C for the brief time I had the craptastic scootworks belt drive on it which was more difficult to get centered, I adjusted it as follows: 1) I'd get it pretty close with jack stands. 2) go r...

Re: LED Headlight Conversion

Yeah I actually ordered a cheap pair from fleabay later the same day as my last post. The description for them was "2Pcs 20W H4 Hi/Lo 3200LM led Cree Car LED Headlight Kit Bulb Xenon White Fanless" These appear to be the same from another seller. They are 20W per bulb and supposedly 3200 l...

Re: Exhaust rattle

The new Honda Rebels look interesting.... About 6K miles ago I welded up the vent holes by the crossover when mine started rattling. That seemed to fix it more or less. I still hear a barely perceptible rattle every now and then. When and if they do ever completely fail I'm gonna try my hand at fabb...

Re: Wants to die until warmed up

You may want to put some lube on that switch. That carb cleaner surely removed any lube that was there. Since that area is so prone to crap from the road, maybe a "dry" lube of some sort?

Re: Road trip fail....

Update 10-15-16: Well no surprise here. 2,761 miles. That's all I got out of the GT3 Belt. Unlike the first belt I had no warning (teeth shedding) of an imminent failure. I was accelerating from an intersection almost up to speed (about 40mph) when suddenly I stopped accelerating but the motor kept ...

Re: Coolant leak/water pump ?

That bolt is the coolant drain bolt. snug it back up. If necessary use a copper crush washer. Remember you are screwing a steel bolt into a soft cast aluminum part. Don't go crazy or you will strip the threads out of the hole. There is likely NEVER a reason to replace the water pump. IIRC the pump (...

Re: Stumbling, weak power and backfires upon acceleration.

It went back to stumbling just off idle until I got the RPMs up or eased back on the throttle reaching my desired speed. Still not as bad as before though. I dumped 3/4 of a bottle of carb cleaner in with the fresh gas and went for a ride and it only hiccuped once. I can't believe it worked that goo...
