Re: Exhaust rattle
Well I finally got to the rattle. Just couldn't take it any more. I had to get up at 5:00 am to watch the F1 race so I got out early enough while it was only 92 degrees. (It's now 105 @ 10:00 am!) Actual work time was only about 20 minutes start to finish so it's not a bad job. While I thought the n...

Re: Exhaust rattle
Boy, this sucks! My CCT was noisy until it recently clicked over and the engine then got crazy quiet. I loved it! I had a bit of a buzz that I knew was from a header pipe. Then in less than two weeks it started getting louder every day. Now it's just plain obnoxious. Pretty embarrassing too when I'm...

Re: Awful mileage, no speed
It really sounds like a couple of problems. The intermittent dieing sounds like a cap vent issue. I pulled my cap apart about 2 years ago for a look see after reading about other people having problems with the vent. Mine had quite a bit of corrosion from condensation. I soaked everything in CLR and...

Re: cam chain noise?
Dang, I think my CCT has actually clicked twice! I noticed yesterday that it's as quiet as a church mouse now. Well maybe not that quiet but it's definitely making a lot less noise than it was after the first click over a few weeks ago. I'm wondering if the CCT was stuck due to the previous owner (a...

Re: cam chain noise?
Mine was noisy but I noticed it mainly at idle. It recently clicked over and is much quieter now. I still hear a bit of noise but it's coming from the right side header. I think I'm getting the dreaded inner pipe rattle. I seldom ride without a helmet and can't hear much of anything from the bike on...

Re: Better Battery?
Something isn't right. I'd do a cranking voltage check. I'll bet you're going to find either a bad solder joint, bad connector, a dead cell or just need to do a few charge/discharge cycles to wake it up. While the A123 cells do sag a bit in cold weather you shouldn't notice it on your bike. I was ca...

Re: Cam chain tensioner noise
Nope. I tried running the cams backwards while I had the cover off to see if it might click over when the slack was taken up. Didn't happen. It hasn't gotten any worse but hasn't gotten any better either. I've read on the EX-500 forum that the CCT's do go bad occasionally and won't adjust on their o...

Re: Better Battery?
Yeah, I bought most of my cells a few years back when you could get the DeWalt "defective" packs cheap. I haven't checked lately but I'm sure they're not as cheap now that people have caught on and started buying them up for re-sale. I've got almost 40 cells so even after building the 4S2P...

Re: Better Battery?
I just happened to pull my home made A123 pack out of the bike Saturday to see how it's doing after 15 months. I have a high end charger/cell balancer I use for my radio control hobby because I use everything from ni-cd, nimh, lithium ion (a123) and lithium polymer cells. The pack was fully charged ...

Re: Gas mileage!
Well here we go. Cooler temps are finally upon us here in Arizona and my mileage is dropping again. Makes no sense whatsoever for it to drop when its cooler but it does. With the temps now in the low 70's during the day and in the low 50's when I ride home at 1:00 AM my mileage has dropped about 5 m...

Cam chain tensioner noise
I'm just over 20K miles now and the cam chain is finally getting a little noisy. Easy to hear right at the front center of the motor. Sure wish CCT would click over to the next step on its own but I'm going to try to knock out a valve adjust and oil change this weekend if possible. (a little early f...

Re: Please donate to keep this forum alive!
I just sent $10.00 PayPal "GIFT" so you don't get hit with fees. Wish I could do more but what little budget I have right now won't allow it. Hopefully more will contribute to keep the site alive.

Re: Recommend a Bike Lift?
I have the Harbor Freight lift. My adapter is pretty inelegant. I made it out of scrap I had laying around. It's 3 pieces of 3/4"x3x9 pine(?) glued together. It goes right between the pipes. Works pretty well.

Re: maybe better fuel mileage?
I hung the GPS on the bike a while back and was surprised to see that it was almost dead on from about 45 on up to 80. My car on the other hand reads about 3 mph low. I really would have expected the car to be more accurate. Heck, I'm not even sure GPS can give a truly accurate speed reading but I d...

Re: maybe better fuel mileage?
Greg, I consider the 17t sprocket one of those "must do" upgrades. First gear actually becomes useful, rpm on the freeway drops and gas mileage can increase pretty significantly. I'm 6'3" and 250 pounds and I've gotten as much as 61.2 mpg. The lowest I've gotten lately is when I've ha...
