"New" 1986 Kawasaki ZL 600 Eliminator
I sold my last bike 18+ months ago and used the money to help put a down payment on a house. Today I picked up a really nice 28 year old bike with only 17,000 miles on it in real nice condition. It was so nice to be back on two wheels riding around the North Georgia countryside today. The bike was i...

Re: Kawasaki's replacement for the Vulcan 500 LTD?
Agreed, the hydraulic valves would be great, had those on my 750 Vulcan, no adjustments needed, very nice. The "add" says a "sealed chain" what is that? Is it somehow enclosed so it doesn't get road grime or are they just talking about an "x-ring" chain? 64 mpg sounds g...

Re: RUNNING "DARKSIDE"
Bikerbill, I really don't remember exactly what pressure I found worked best. I'm kinda thinking it was in the mid to upper 20's if my memory serves me well. I started out with more pressure but didn't like the way it felt and I just kept coming off a couple of pounds at a time until I was happy wit...

Re: RUNNING "DARKSIDE"
I had over 24,000 miles on the car tire when I wrecked the bike. A couple of dogs ran out of a driveway and took out the front tire and me. The tread was still in great shape and I think it might have gone another 12,000 miles. I kept the tire and the wheel. Yes, I'd do it again. The car tire was so...

Re: Speedometer/tachometer "jiggle" information
Certainly friction can add to or create a problem there but if the cable is not well made then there's not anything you could do that would make the vibration go away. As I stated before, I don't know anyone else's process, but we heat treat every shaft as it comes off the winding heads to relieve s...

Re: How many miles do you put on your 500?
Wow, Bill, that is pretty awesome. I thought I'd put a lot on my 2009 by having almost 45,000 on it when I went down in April 2012 but that's nothing compared to your miles.

Re: Cold weather riding gear
Hey Georgia Rider, I actually did run my 500 with the heated gloves and vest. Don't remember all the numbers but I do remember what I had to do to make it work. First, I put in LED on all running and turn signals and brake light. I had to change the turn signal unit to an electronic one to make them...

Speedometer/tachometer "jiggle" information
Hi, it's been a while since I've posted anything. I'm not sure exactly where this should fit but I put it here. Over the years I've often wondered what caused some speedo's and tach's to "jiggle" instead of run steady like they always do in a car for instance. I've finally learned at least...

Nice Ride up Fort Mountain and into Elijah Georgia today
I only live about an hour from this mountain but today was the first time I ever remember going there. I started out this morning around 10 AM and just started wandering through the North Georgia countryside heading in the General direction of Fort Mountain. I rode through Ringgold, Ga. and on to Pr...

Re: Cold weather riding gear
Hey AKrider, Your post reminds me of why I love living in the South. I ride year round here, but we don't get the type of weather you have to endure. I wear Venture brand heated jacket lining and gloves to keep me warm. Works pretty good, I can ride in comfort down to the upper teens in temperature ...
