Re: Carb Tuning
I've decided I got lucky with the carbs and i'm not going to tuch them until I absolutely have to. I just filled up today for a whopping 59.9 mpg. Granted, I was averaging 62-65 on the interstate, but half my riding is in town on stop and go highways and streets with a lot of lights. Honestly, I was...

Re: New Vulcan Owner in Arizona
Just in front of your rear left turn signal, is that a helmet lock? I've got a bracket there but I don't know what actually goes there.

Re: Self Cancelling turn signals?
I have a '96 EN500A7. I never even thought that motorcycles had those. I'm pretty sure ours don't, these bikes are pretty basic. But then again, I've been riding since January, and I've owned my bike since December. (I bought mine non-running with 12,500 miles and 5 years of neglect). I've put 4,600...

Re: Carb Tuning
Just swapped in my new iridium NGK plugs and changed my oil to Rotella T 15w40. Then I filled up with 93 octane 0% ethanol gas. Every tank before this has been 87 octane with 10% ethanol. Figure the carbs could use a little cleaning. 111.4 miles to this tank and still haven't had to switch to reserv...

Re: Carb Tuning
Right now I'm running 136 dynojet mains (148 keihin equivelant). And the clips are on the 3rd slot from the fat end of the needle. (The base setting on the dynojet kit instructions). I'm also currently running UNI foam stage-1 pod filters. Gonna have to fill up again tomorrow morning. I'm gonna swap...

Re: Carb Tuning
Picked up used needle jet from a local shop/junkyard the other day. 1st day running it, on fouled plugs that have just been wiped off (had to order new plugs), went 44.5 miles and had to put 0.852 gallons in for an estimated 52.2 mpg. The first 25 miles of my ride was riding 2 up and my bags loaded ...

Re: Carb Tuning
No. It is the piece at the bottom of the carb opening that the tip of the needle fits in. Its located just above the main jet and the housing or whatever its called.

Re: Carb Tuning
Okay, I officially feel stupid. Just realized today looking at the carbs again, I am missing the right needle jet (jet needle seat). Just ordered on online. Hopefully it'll be here by middle of the week. That may explain the right cylinder running real rich and my really crappy gas mileage. Lol.and ...

Generally speaking, the color is based on the temperature inside the bulb. It is measured in Kelvin. So your lights should be burning at 4100 degrees kelvin

Re: HID Headlight.
Sounds like the brightness rating is actually higher than 4100K. I have a speedmetal h4 HID kit I picked up at Cycle Gear. It is a 6000K light and it is bright white. A lot more light than stock or even the Sylvania Silverstar Ultra I replaced. Granted, I installed a set of 8000K in my Jeep (Meant t...

Re: Carb Tuning
My '96 A model (yes, they made the A in 96 too) had 110 and 112s in it. I figured someone messed it up. Didn't realize they came with uneven jets because of the airbox. Right now, I am running a dynojet 136 which I looked up is roughly equivalent to a keihin 148. Only issue I'm have now is after hal...

I just PM'd 500 Rider, but I'm wondering if these are still sold for the A models.

Re: EN500A "pilot box" replacement with a tachometer
I'm actually working right now to get my dynojet kit and pod filters dialed in now, as well as realizing most of my popping issues was the PAIR system malfunctioning. After I do the PAIR delete, I plan on trying this out on a second hand handlebar clamp. did you have to put in any resistors for the ...

Re: How many miles do you put on your 500?
I bought my '96 A model in December, got it running in January (Didn't run since early 2009). It had 12,500 miles on it. I've already put over 3,800 miles (16,300) on her so far. My gas mileage is crap right now, but until I swapped on some Dyna Mufflers, I didn't realize how rich she was running. S...

Re: Anyone interested in an EN500A "Overdrive" belt pulley?
I wonder if a Vulcan 900 pulley will work. Unless what I'm finding is wrong, the front pulley has an extra 7 teeth which would drop the gearing to 2.125 or if we could use the rear with 2 less teeth which would render a gearing of 2.64. Both are an improvement over the 2.72 factory. I think I'm goin...
