Re: Wants to die until warmed up

Thanks for your advice bikerbill. The problem ended up being the switch located down on the kick stand. There was very little movement on the switch when I would put the kick stand in the up position. With a good cleaning of carburetor cleaner the switch is now operating normally. Thanks again for t...

Wants to die until warmed up

I have a 2006 vulcan 500 and when I first start the bike it has to warm up for a few minutes or when I let the clutch out it dies. I live in Nebraska but this morning it was upper 50's (temperature) or low 60's. Is this common? I have had the bike for 3 years and it has just under 16000 miles. Any s...

Re: fan problems?

When it stalled on me I did open to the cap to see how much fuel was in the tank. I took an air compressor and aired out the vent. Also followed the blue tagged hose that connects to gas tank and goes down to the seperater ( I think) was worn where it goes through the bike frame towards the rear tir...

fan problems?

I was cruising interstate yesterday at around 75 mph and my bike just quit running. After letting it sit for 10-15 minutes I finally was able to start the bike again. One thing I noticed was if it did get hot I did not have any lights come on nor was the fan running. I rode the rest of the way home ...

Re: valve adjusting

I hate to show my ignorance but what is a valve adjustment tool? As far as complication on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the hardest) how would you rate this job? I do appreciate any feedback.

valve adjusting

Has anyone adjusted the valves on their vulcan 500? I have 7000 miles and the manual says to adjust every 6000. Is this a DIY project?

Re: RPM's on Vulcan 500

That makes me a little more comfortable about driving at those rpm's for around 55 minutes. If you don't mind sharing, what did it cost you to change your final drive and did you do the work yourself? I would have to hire someone to do this type of work for me. Thanks for your help on this issue.

RPM's on Vulcan 500

I have a question about RPM's. When driving 65 to 70 mph on the highway I notice that the tachometer reads around 5.5 X 1000 rpms. There isn't a red-line on the tachometer and I was wondering if driving for long periods will damage the engine. Almost wish I had one more gear.

Re: Help finding oil leak

Mine also looked like it was dripping off the black bolt but was actually running down from the clutch cover. It is hard to see because the foot pedal assembly is in the way. Be careful if you try to tighten the black bolt (oil passage plug or also known as the main gallery plug) because it only req...

Re: Help finding oil leak

I am still awaiting my parts to arrive but I will use a torque wrench while installing the cover. Hope this cures my leak. Thanks for all the great advice,

Re: Help finding oil leak

I do have one more question since you have tackled this job before. In my manual it says to apply silicone sealant at approximately 3 and 9 o'clock where the cover goes back on, did you do this and if so what type of sealant did you use?
