Re: Best size sprockets for highway riding

I've found an 18 tooth front sprocket (JTF565.18) a few years ago. It made the sprocket ratio 42/18 = 2.3333. It worked great for my 2005. I saved it and it is now on my 2009. Very easy to install. One caveat, you must shim it out with a washer so it lines up as did the original.

Re: 18 Tooth Front Sprocket

I am selling my 18 tooth JTF565-18 sprocket and shim because I'm selling the bike with the 16 original. Great bike but won't fit in our camper trailer. So the 2005 EN500 (19660 miles) and the 18 tooth sprocket (1000 miles) are for sale. Call email me @ rockysmusic1861@yahoo.com for details. P S : it...

Re: 18 Tooth Front Sprocket

Although the 18T sprocket is "thinner," it is the same thickness at the chain area and all the way thru. The 16T is thicker only near the center. The 18T can be washered out for proper alignment. My fuel mileage is now around 60+ with combined city/hiway driving and NON ethanol gas.

Re: 17-tooth sprocket?

I FOUND IT FROM A SPROCKET COMPANY I NOTICED ON A POST on this forum. I think it was JR or JM sprocket...possibly from BIKE ALERT. I looked thru some old receipts and could only find the latter...good luck...I had to be persistant but some guy found one that would fit the spline. Just had to shim it...

Re: 17-tooth sprocket?

I skipped the 17 and found an 18 that works great. It dropped my rpm about 20%. I had to find someone at the sprocket supplier that knew what I wanted to find the right one. Only had to use a thick washer to shim it out for a perfect alignment. Mpg went up to around 60-61mpg in combination city high...

Re: Chain life?

The 18 tooth sprocket from JT is JTF565-18. It will need to be shimmed out with a washer, that's all. Note that it does NOT come with the rubber dampers though.

Re: Chain life?

Thanx for the reply. Maybe the lady I spoke with Had some wrong info. I looked at the sprocket and saw NO holes. FYI 55.6 mpg on 89 octane non-ethanol. ps I installed an inductive tach; it sucks. What is the rpm supposed to be at any given speed in 6th?

Re: Chain life?

I spoke with JTSprockets and they said there is an 18 that will fit with some washers. After further discussion, it sounded like no washer were needed if 2 pilot holes were drilled to math up with the holes in the original. I also bought a digital tach so I can see the difference in rpm. I will prob...

Re: Chain life?

Triangles, I am new to the Vulcan 500. I noticed you mentioned your 17/38 sprockets. Although I haven't counted yet, my manual says final reduction ratio 42/16........16/42. I was wanting more economy and don't need the power since I usually ride single. I was considering an 18 primary if it will fi...
