Belt won't stay centered on rear

Rosebud developed a problem with the belt not running centered of the rear gear causing a low speed squeak, I have adjusted and got it tracking just fine in the garage with 6 to 10 mm deflection at 9.9# of force but when I go out and ride over the very frost heaved road from my house to town it inva...

Re: LED Headlight Conversion

Haven't gotten back to you because snow just melted enough to make riding safe but I didn't see any issue with the brightness, had my wife ride towards me while I was in a car going the other way but I do live in the land of the midnight sun so I can't tell you what it is like in real darkness. Had ...

Re: New tire love

Still liking the Michelin Commander II's, up to about 7000 miles on them now, still wearing and riding well.

LED Headlight Conversion

Just installed the OPT7 FluxBeam bright white LED replacement light on Rosebud. We are currently at just under 22 hours of daylight here in the interior but my primary concern for installing it was increased visibility for other drivers. It certainly does that, it is a very bright, very white light ...

Re: Convert From Tube-type to Tube-less Tires

You are correct charnotx, in addition Michelin even lists the Commander II as being able to be installed with tubes on their website. http://motorcycle.michelinman.com/advice/faq/general-information-precautions Ray I like the Commander II, great wear so far and handling is great wet or dry, good cho...

Re: Next Project 1980 Honda CX500 Custom

So this weekend I built a workstand and got "Gordy" up so I can start working on him. http://s21.postimg.org/bxehcnkpv/Gordy_Day_1_smaller.jpg We'll see how this gets on, gotta have the wife's side of the garage empty by the first snowfall. I started a resurrection thread on the CX500 Foru...

Next Project 1980 Honda CX500 Custom

Its big, not a lot of power, and suffering from years of neglect. Original parts are hard to find but those water cooled cylinder heads sticking out the sided should keep my old knees warm this fall. With the sale of the wife's Rebel, she is now coveting Rosebud so it's time to pull the trigger on t...

Re: EN500A stainless steel brake line.

Thanks for the great info Triangles, I went with the 42" line and had to bend the bracket an the fork a bit to get my brake line to reach comfortably at full fork extension but it's perfect for normal riding, an easy mod with big improvement in front brake effectiveness, those master cylinders ...

Re: New tire love

Tried Dunlop D404s - great traction but rubber so soft they didn't last long (about 3000 mi rear and double for the front). Then I went with Bridgestone Exedra Max front and rear, did better on the wear (about 6000 mi rear) but occasionally the rear would slip sideways a little on rough pavement in ...

Re: valve adjusting

Finally got my hoses and got Rosebud back together, had to get one of the coolant hoses from Japan! I ended up ordering a complete from two different vendors to try and get them here sooner, I will take the spare set and seal them in a vacuum bag and store them in a paper bag in a cool, dry drawer i...

New item for my pre-ride inspection.

While not a total fan of the MSF I have enjoyed the courses I have taken from them and recommend that any new rider take one of their courses. One of their acronyms is TCLOCKS which they use for the pre-ride inspection. T - Tires, wheels, brakes C - controls, handlebars, levers, pedals, cables, thro...

Re: valve adjusting

Just adjusted Rosebud's valves and have a few comments to add. First, crankshaft rotation is CW when looking at the nut on the crankshaft on the left side of the bike. If you go the wrong way you will hear the starter clutch ratcheting. Second I found with the plugs out there was enough spring tensi...

Re: Fuel is leaking from my carb.

Our bikes have a diaphragm in the petcock that is supposed to prevent fuel flow unless the engine is cranking (opened by vacuum) so I would go there first. Secondly, any carburetor that is clean and functioning properly should shut the fuel off at the float valve and not leak once the bowl is full t...

Get the new plug and o-ring installed and let us know how it works out after a few days of riding.
