Re: Amazing custom made Front Seat back rest for vulcan 500

I b'lieve if I were to swap in a Ninja motor, I'd just swap in all the ignition electronics and carbs (assuming they're different) from the ninja as well. Assuming I had a whole ex500 donorcycle from the squid farm to pick parts off of. I 'spect it'd end up being cheaper in the long run to get a wre...

Man.... If I ever end up with knobbies on that thing, I might just try that. XD

Re: Best size sprockets for highway riding

I truly intend no disrespect, but I've been pulling 30 miles each way to work every day at 65-70 with the stock pulleys on a 500A (2.7:1, I think?), and that seems to be the speed it likes to ride at, even with that high a ratio. It'll easily hit 95-100 when passing tractor trailers without trying t...

I think the stock ratio is about perfect for the type of riding I do, anyway. :3

Re: 2000 vulcan EN500 carb or fuel injected?

I'd leave the intake and exhaust alone. Since it is carbed, there's no ECU to automatically adjust your fuel mix for the higher air volume. You'll end up running lean, unless you rejet the carb (which is a complete PITA), which will damage the engine. You'll also lose some low-end torque, which woul...

Re: what bike should i get?

I'd go for one or the other of the 500s, whichever had the rubber parts in better shape.

But this /is/ a Vulcan 500 forum, so we may be biased. XD

Re: New rider from West Palm FL, soon to have a Kawi vulcan

If you go for a 90s model, try to find a '95 or earlier "A" model rather than the mid-96 and later "C". They have a little more leg-room, tubeless tires, belt drive, adjustable handlebars, and a bit higher compression pistons (same as the ninja 500) but the same cam as the "...

Re: What might cause a 10 mpg drop in my fuel mileage

Yus, air resistance ends up being a complicated differential equation that I don't remember how to solve anymore.... Suffice to say, as you increase in speed, the air drag increases by some kind of nonlinear factor (it's exponential, but not terribly steep usually, unless you are driving my '84 F-15...

Re: Inlet duct to carb fit?

Ohh! You're talking about the airbox boots, not the intake boots between carb and engine? It's ok if they are sucking a little. Wrap some duct tape around 'em and ride. If I can remember to do it, I'll take some pictures inside the airbox of mine (though it's an A and may be a little different) and ...

Re: Inlet duct to carb fit?

Yea, you'd probably be farther ahead to just replace it. Rubber parts seem to go weird like that, esp. if the vehicle has been sitting for a while before you got it. Lucky they're $10 for the 500. I had to spend $56 to get some for a 1980 CB400T, and they weren't even OEM. X_x When I grabbed the old...

Re: Mircosquirt Fuel Injection Project log.

I can have the controller use single fire spark instead of dual fire ignition in theory giving the coils more time to charge and have a better spark. I doubt it will make any difference though. Hm! I wonder... If the spark was /too/ hot I expect it would lead to premature electrode wear. :3 Do you ...

Or are you doing ECU spark management in addition to FI?
